On a site in Quebec last fall, our hand vane looked fine until we remolded a sample and it ‘turned to soup’ — porewater EC was about 0.3 mS/cm. Quick tip: bring a cheap conductivity meter and do a jar-shake remold test; CPTu caught the sensitivity later, but a pocket penetrometer alone would’ve been misleading. Small caveat: LiDAR slide scars helped us screen, but they weren’t definitive near drainage ditches where fresh water had been leaching salts.
